Not for people.
That’s what most stuff today is.
Either on the internet, or in the world outside, majority of the stuff we come across are just average.
Be it a website, or a grocery store or a customer-care representative, or the income tax filing system, they are all messed up.
Not because, they didn’t focus enough. They had plenty of money, and plenty of time too, but they focused on working things according to what they thought was important. And forgot the audience.
If you don’t put your customer/audience in your mind, giving the top priority, then what you are doing is merely useless.
Deliver a speech that engages people, start an initiative that unites people, make an invention that helps people, play an instrument that touches people. Only then, you can claim you are good at your craft.
Else, go back to your desk and start over again.

You are the Average.
Of the 5 people you spend most time with, said Jim Rohn.
He couldn’t be more true about it.
We didn’t choose our parents and siblings.
But we can choose our friends. Our partners. Our companions. Our co-workers.
Thus, an awful lot of our attitude and vision depends on who we surround ourselves with.
Be picky. Don’t get into awkward connections and hang in there forever.
If your life isn’t as great as you want it to be, look around. Check if the people who you hang out with are wasting away their lives too. That could be a negative sign.
Move away. You may feel alone for a while until you find the right ones, but any bit of negativity will annihilate a beautiful chance to make your life beautiful. Stay positive.

Creatures of the Commonplace.
Being common is so damn common.
That is something every average joe aims to be.
Commonality isn’t an attribute. Infact, its the absence of an attribute.
It doesnt take much to lead an average life. Society just grooms you into it casually.
Like what Cecil Beaton said once, “Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.”
Average.
Imagine your next project, film, drawing, photograph or any piece of work being just average. Do you like that?
No one wants to be average.
Everyone wants to be different. To be special. To be unique. To be the best.
But then, why do only few people get there?
Because, they are the ones who want it so badly.
The rest are happy with temporary pleasures.
A 100 likes, a 100 customers, a 100 shares, a 100 compliments, if that’s where you want to stop, please don’t even think about being the best.
Because the best don’t stop at where the crowd becomes happy,
they actually begin exactly there and scale upwards, endlessly.
Average is not for you, be an outlier. Stay out of the curve.
The Hero.
I wrote this a hundred times. I tell myself this a hundred times.
Including me, all of us, have this habit of wasting away a great day in the contentment of being just okay.
For me, if your day was okay, then it was terrible.
Your day is bound only to be one of these two things. Amazing or Average. Unlike bargaining with street-vendors, there’s nothing in between.
But before we know, our day passes quickly. And we hit the bed, blaming everything on everyone else. Why? Because, we’re used to being just okay.
So, challenge everything that’s ordinary. Mainly if it is YOURS.
Don’t gossip, or chit-chat. Leave this to your colleagues/classmates who are happy being average. If you ever thought to be extra-ordinary, never indulge in ordinary things.
You may look like an idiot but stand out of the crowd. It doesn’t mean isolation. It means giving importance only to important things.
Silly talks, Long endless texting, over-socializing on FB/twitter, meeting every tom-dick and harry in your town is not life. I mean, not extra-ordinary life.
Categorize your friends now. Brutally. Allot time only to the top ones. The rest will anyway choose the next hottest thing on Facebook, if not you.
All through this, you may feel alone. Don’t panic. This is the not-so-popularized phase of every winner. In the Hollywood lingo, “the making” phase.
Remember, Every day is new. Treat the new one newly. Shed your past. Dust your chest. Every day, the world awaits a new character by you.
The comedian, the sidekick, the villian or the HERO.
Who are you today?
